New Features

  • SATA DCO (Device Configuration Overlay) support added
    • Support is added to the STB Original mode ATA/SATA->Commands menu. This new feature displays all of the current DCO settings of the selected drive. Drives can be attached either via native SATA ports or via LSI/PERC/ATTO SAS HBAs.
  • SMART Attributes updated
    • Unused Reserved Block Count Total
    • SATA Downshift Error Count
    • End-To-End Error (IOEDC) Count
    • Head Stability
    • Induced Op-Vibration Detection
    • Reported Uncorrectable Errors
    • Command Timeout
    • High-Fly Writes
    • Vibration During Write
    • Shock During Write
    • Disk Shift
    • Endurance Remaining
    • Power-On Hours
    • Head-Flying Hours
    • Total LBAs Written
    • Total LBAs Read
    • Read Error Recovery Rate
    • Free Fall Protection
  • Performance/Error Graph Test
    • The Disk->Test->Performance Error Graph test has been updated to include both a Read and a new Write choice to display command latency for both Read and Write commands.
  • New SAS Controller Support
    • All of the ATA/SATA Command and Test functions now support testing SATA drives attached to LSI, Dell PERC, and ATTO SAS HBAs.
  • SATA IDENTIFY Information Expanded
    • The ATA/SATA->Commands->View Identify Data has been upgraded to now display the state of all bits of all words, showing whether any setting is either set or NOT set. Previous versions of STB Suite only displayed items which were set.
  • Drive Screening Test
    • The Disk->Test->Drive Screening Test menu choice now displays a suggestion that the user use the Disk Manufacturing Module for drive screening instead of the older single-drive test.
  • ScriptWriterPro
    • The ScriptWriter Pro environment will be left in the STB Suite but will not be upgraded and issues will not be supported starting November 1, 2011.

STB Original Mode Bug Fixes

  • Performance/Error Graph Test
    • The Disk->Test->Performance Error Graph Test has been updated to allow testing of drives with a capacity of 2TB or greater.
  • Quick QC Test
    • The Disk->Test->Quick QC Test has a bug fixed that prevented targets beyond the first 15 on the system to be tested.
    • The Disk->Test->Quick QC Test has a bug fixed that prevented proper testing of drives with a capacity of 2TB or greater.
  • Disk Device Information
    • The double-click Disk->Device Information-> Error data screen ->Total  KB Written & Read now shows the same as when printing this information. Formerly the screen displayed “Total KB Written” while the printed reported displayed “Total Bytes Written”.

Manufacturing Module (DMM) Additional Features & Tests

  • SMART Attributes updated
    • The list of SATA SMART Attributes logged in the DMM SMART Test has been updated to now include definition/display of the following SATA SMART Attribute names:
      • Unused Reserved Block Count Total
      • SATA Downshift Error Count
      • End-To-End Error (IOEDC) Count
      • Head Stability
      • Induced Op-Vibration Detection
      • Reported Uncorrectable Errors
      • Command Timeout
      • High-Fly Writes
      • Vibration During Write
      • Shock During Write
      • Disk Shift
      • Endurance Remaining
      • Power-On Hours
      • Head-Flying Hours
      • Total LBAs Written
      • Total LBAs Read
      • Read Error Recovery Rate
      • Free Fall Protection
  • SATA IDENTIFY Information Expanded
    • The SATA Info Test has been upgraded to now log the state of all bits of all words, showing whether any setting is either set or NOT set. Previous versions of this test only logged items which were set. Here is an example taken from a DMM log file – all the items showing “NOT...” show the new feature:
      • NOP command NOT supported
      • READ BUFFER command supported
      • WRITE BUFFER command supported
      • Host protected area supported
      • DEVICE RESET command NOT supported
      • SERVICE interrupt NOT supported
      • release interrupt NOT supported
      • look ahead supported
      • write cache supported
      • Power Management feature set supported
      • Removable Media feature set NOT supported
  • New Tests available
    • Three new tests are available via the DMM External Program Test choice.
      • WriteSameSCSI
        • This new test uses the SCSI/FC/SAS WRITESAME functionality to write all blocks of the device under test while only needed to transfer one block of data once for the test. This eliminates almost all bus use during the test allowing each disk drive to complete the full media write at its full-speed.The data pattern written can be specified by using the DMM External Test -> Command Line Parameters window to enter the desired data pattern. Available data patterns are:
          • pattern=allzeros
          • pattern=allones
          • pattern=altzeroandone
          • pattern=altoneandzero
          • pattern=incrementing
          • pattern=decrementing
          • pattern=random
          • pattern=walkingzeros
          • pattern=walkingones
          • pattern=alt1and0thenalt0and1
          • pattern=alt0and1thenalt1and0
      • WriteSameSATA
        • This new test uses the SATA SCT functionality to write all blocks of the device under test while only needed to transfer one block of data once for the test. This eliminates almost all bus use during the test allowing each disk drive to complete the full media write at its full-speed.The data pattern written can be specified by using the DMM External Test -> Command Line Parameters window to enter the desired data pattern. Available data patterns are:
          • pattern=allzeros
          • pattern=allones
          • pattern=altzeroandone
          • pattern=altoneandzero
          • pattern=incrementing
          • pattern=decrementing
          • pattern=random
          • pattern=walkingzeros
          • pattern=walkingones
          • pattern=alt1and0thenalt0and1
          • pattern=alt0and1thenalt1and0
      • Format with Discard G List
  • DMM Pre-Test Logging
  • DMM Drive Firmware Version Logging
  • DMM Queue Depth Setting Logging
